What kick-started your weight-loss journey with Weight Watchers?

Still wearing maternity clothes when my son was almost one year old, I felt embarrassed. My nan then passed away and when the only dress that fit was a 16 I knew I had to do something about my weight.

I felt awful and out of control of my body. My husband is a chef so we had great variety in our meals but my portions were far too big. And I snacked a lot on high SmartPoints® savoury foods. When I started Weight Watchers I started to feel in control again and, after each weigh in and loss, I became more and more motivated.


What kept you motivated along the way?

I knew I’d be so disappointed in myself if I gave up on trying to reach the goal I’d set. I faltered at times and had a few gains along the way, but keeping that goal in mind and telling myself I could do it helped pick me up and get me back on track.


How to you move more?

My exercise was non-existent before but at the start, all I did was walk with my kids. It can be hard to know what to do when you first start but start where you feel comfortable and the rest will come as you get more energy and confidence.

I now love going in fun runs, and have completed two City2Surfs, four Colour Runs and a miss muddy course. I also like yoga.

What do you like about WW Your Way+?

The flexibility is amazing. If you want to track, you can, if you don’t want to track zero Points® foods, don’t; if you want to save Points each day to build up for a party, do, if not then eat all your Points.

I also think it gives members more accountability and helps them on maintenance as they’ll be aware of hunger signals and portion sizes. It’s the best program yet!


Any changes to the way you've been feeling?

The first thing I noticed was less bloating and my energy levels went from 0 to amazing!


Does the  program make it easier to eat out?

With so many zero Points foods you can make great choices without even using any Points. And of course, you can save all your weeklies for that amazing dessert you’ve been craving.

What is your favourite dessert?

Cheesecake and cider! I don’t have them all the time but when I do I enjoy them, I track them and move on. I find I enjoy these things more now as they really do feel like a treat.


Has WW Your Way+ changed how you cook at home?

Most of our dinners have gone from about 8 SmartPoints to 5 SmartPoints or less. We’re having more salmon and I’m using lots of beans and lentils. I also use the 99% fat-free plain yoghurt for savoury dressings and sauces.


How has your mindset changed?

I’m really good at saying no now - your willpower is a muscle that needs to be flexed to stay strong!


What are you proud of achieving?

I’m so proud I set my mind to something and completed it. I’m also going to be in the Weight Watchers magazine, which is something I had on my to-do list this year - I never thought in a million years I’d be in a magazine!


Steph’s top weight loss advice...

If you don’t think you have time to plan, make time. This is crucial to sticking to your Budget and making the best decisions. Even if, like me, you just plan your dinners by selecting a few great recipes off the app and shopping for them. I always have fresh fruit, yoghurt, rice crackers and loads of salad ingredients in the house, too. And if temptation is too high with certain foods in the house, just don’t buy them.
