Then & Now
I looked like an ugly ducking
At her wedding, my sister looked beautiful – exactly as a bride should. I was thrilled to be her bridesmaid, but in all the photographs I looked like an ugly duckling standing next to her. Over the years I had become unhealthy and overweight. Seeing those photos made me realise I didn’t want to look or feel like that any more. Something had to change.
I had to change my relationship with food
Weight Watchers is perfect for me because it encourages a healthy lifestyle with delicious fresh food and there’s no deprivation. The support that the Program provides is invaluable, too. My coaches made me accountable for my weight loss and I needed that in order to reach my goals. They helped me understand that food is linked to our emotions. Changing my relationship with food was the key to my success.

My 3 big lifestyle changes
When it comes to changes, there are three that helped me reach Goal. First, I learned to watch my portion size – I was eating far too much at every meal; second, I started drinking a lot more water; and third, I started eating a lot more vegies, adding them at every meal. I make healthier, more interesting meals now, too, mostly from the WW cookbooks. My whole family loves them – even my boys who are 6 and 4 gobble them up.
Being active is a big part of my life now
I love yoga, cross-training and running, and I normally work out six times a week. The key to sticking to a workout is to integrate it into your lifestyle so you can fit it in easily. I go early in the morning when the children are still asleep. I started doing yoga with my sister once a week and found I really enjoyed it. Now I do it all the time – it’s great for strength and flexibility and it helps with other areas of my training such as running and cross-training.
My energy levels have increased so much – which is very important when you have young children! I’m stronger and fitter than ever before. Plus, my confidence has grown – I know I can handle any difficult challenges life throws my way.

Last year I did a triathlon with my husband
Last year I did a triathlon with my husband – something I would never have dreamed of doing in the past. Although I was exhausted by the end, it gave me an incredible feeling of accomplishment. I’m planning to do another one and I’m thinking about trying to tackle a half marathon.
I decided to become a WW Coach
WW has become such a part of my life that I decided to train to become a Coach. After having my boys, I wanted to find something part-time that would fit around their school schedule. It’s a great role and I love meeting new people and helping them achieve their goals. There aren’t many jobs where you have people telling you that you’ve changed their life. I work school hours during the week then a full day on Saturday, so it really fits well with my family time.

My family is very supportive and they understand it’s important for me to take time out to exercise and prepare healthy meals. And they have been really good about eating all the dishes I’ve tried, too!
I work out because…
1. It improves my mental wellbeing.
Since I started exercising, I feel less stressed and more relaxed. It allows me to clear my mind.
2. It’s my ‘me time’.
If I exercise in the morning, I have time to think about what I’d like to achieve that day. In the evening, it allows me to reflect on what has happened during the day.
3. It gives me confidence.
Exercise gives me the confidence to take on life’s challenges because I feel physically and mentally stronger. Some mornings I don’t have a chance to exercise and if I’m driving to work and see someone running I feel a bit jealous!
