Wasabi powder (found at Asian markets and specialty food stores) packs quite a punch. It adds zest to our juicy beef tenderloin and crunchy Asian-style slaw.

Ingredients

Wasabi powder

5 tbsp(s)

Unpacked brown sugar

2 tsp(s)

Uncooked trimmed beef tenderloin

1 pound(s), cut into four 4 oz pieces

Packaged coleslaw mix (shredded cabbage and carrots)

1 pound(s)

Canola oil

2 tsp(s)

Rice wine vinegar

cup(s)

Table salt

tsp(s), or to taste

Soy sauce

¼ cup(s)

Sugar

1 tbsp(s)

Instructions

  1. Preheat grill or broiler. Stir together 2 tablespoons of wasabi powder, brown sugar and salt. Rub on beef. Grill or broil to desired doneness, about 10 minutes for medium.
  2. Stir together slaw, oil, remaining wasabi powder, soy sauce, vinegar and sugar until well coated. Yields about 1 slice beef and 1 cup slaw per serving.
