Four years ago, I walked down the aisle and married the man of my dreams. Four years ago I was not at my heaviest, but I felt uncomfortable in my skin.
I have struggled for a long time with my weight and self-image. Two kids, hormonal imbalances, a diagnosis of hypothyroidism, the loss of my father, anxiety through the roof, a loss of a job and some postpartum depression along the way; it led me to a version of me that was teetering on the edge of an unhealthy life. After the birth of my second child, I felt a renewed feeling of self, things came into place and I felt at peace with several things...but two things ALWAYS remained: my weight and my negative body image.
I finally decided that this was it and on May 23rd, 2015 I walked into a Weight Watchers and never turned back. I have received nothing but support, encouragement and advice as well as I have made true friendships at Weight Watchers, which will last a life time. I have never felt better, physically, emotionally and mentally. So with that I give you “My Journey”, I give you myself, I give you “My During”...
My Family and I spend Sunday afternoon's prepping for our weekly Pizza dinner! My husband makes his homemade pizza sauce and pizza dough and our girls help us dress the pizzas. It's a tradition that I never want to break!
We look forward to this family time and luckily with Weight Watchers being a lifestyle change I am able to enjoy a slice of pizza, track my points and side it with a salad. Part of my journey is to be able to enjoy the things that I love, all while making smart choices.
Sunday's pizza dinner this week was a slice of thin crust, all dressed pizza (9 Smartpoints values) with a roasted beet salad (2 Smartpoints values).
I have a love affair, or should I say obsession, with my Fitbit. I got it 5 months into my journey with Weight Watchers and it has been attached to me ever since. I make it a point to join every challenge possible with my Fitbit family, and enter into some friendly and very motivating competition.
I work full time and sit at a desk all day, so I make it a point to walk during my lunch hour and in the evenings I jump on the treadmill for a run. With my growing self confidence and renewed fitness goals, last winter I decided to step WAY outside of the box and joined a women's learn to skate hockey league. And I had the time of my life! I not only got stronger with the intense drills and workouts, I learned that I am really not a bad hockey player...well, if you look beyond the fact that I scored on my own teams net (but let's not talk about that now)... let's talk about how no matter what fitness level you are or where you are at in your life, that you can do anything you put your mind to.
A huge part of my success so far has been the unwavering support of my family, and the commitment to being that role model for my two beautiful little girls. I want them to grow up respecting themselves, entering the world with self confidence. I want them to know that an integral part of what will make them who they are, beyond what the universe gave them, is to taking the time to enjoy "me time", a chance to reflect and refocus on the things that do matter, all while enjoying their own company.
The number one way for love to enter your world, is to love yourself. That is what I want for them, and that is what I want for all of you. I am being honest in saying that this part of the journey has been hard, but amazing all at the same time and I am thankful to Weight Watchers for giving me the tools in finding this within myself and for helping me teach this to my daughters.
I am entering my 40's ready to take on the world, and I am proud of what I have accomplished so far. This is my "Journey", this is my "During" and it has been life changing.
I could not have done this without my Weight Watchers meetings, the support is amazing, and the Saturday morning group is like a second family to me and all headed by our fearless leader Jackie. I cannot help but feel emotional, thinking about all of the reasons that got me here and how sad, scared and alone I felt. Without Weight Watchers I wouldn't be where I am today: happy, fit, healthy, confident and loved.
Do something for yourself today, check out a Weight Watchers meeting, look online. If you fell off the tracks just dust yourself off and move forward, if you hit a plateau keep pushing through, it will break! This is your time, you won't regret it! Let's inspire each other because, I am inspired by all of you!
