"Weight Watchers has saved my life and changed the path I'm travelling. I started this journey to lose weight but I have gained so much more."
Hi Weight Watchers Canada! My name is Jason Janes and I am a 41-year-old professional living in downtown Toronto. I am super excited to share my story with you!
The program is known for taking you "Beyond The Scale" and I had no idea that it was going to be "this" life-changing. This journey for me began 5 months ago; I felt so unhappy, sad, and broken and I didn't think I could be repaired. I was bullied most of my life, and felt that I never fit in, and that I was never going to be good enough. I wanted to be invisible. I didn't want to be noticed as I knew it was going to be for all the wrong reasons.
As a emotional eater, I thought that food was my friend, one that would never let me down - Oh but it did! I was at my heaviest (324 lbs) and very much ashamed that I had let myself gain so much weight. I knew that I had to change, I didn't want to be unhealthy. I didn't want to die at an early age. I thought that if I joined Weight Watchers and just "lost the weight" life would be great! But it is so much more than that! This journey is changing my life physically, psychologically and emotionally. I hope you will follow my journey with me...
When it comes to food, I LOVE IT, and that's not a bad thing. Weight Watchers has taught me that I can enjoy the things I like. There are no restrictions. This is a way of life and I'm loving the fact that I don't have to give up desert. While keeping a balanced meal with lots of protein and veggies, I like to keep room for some tasty treats.
This one is my take on an frozen sandwich dessert! I've taken 2 vanilla Pizzelle Italian wafer cookies (2 SmartPoints values) and placed 1/2 of a Sugar-free Jello Dulce de Leche pudding cup (1 SPV) between them, placed it in the freezer for an hour or two. After dinner, added a little Smuckers sugar free, fat free caramel topping (1 SPV) and topped it with fresh blueberries and blackberries for good measure. FYI - Most Fruit and Veggies are 0 Smart Points - now that's a winner! And who knew that I could make this?
When it came to being active, the journey was struggle for me. I started by walking and it seems that everyone has a FitBit, which totally helps get me motivated to move more. Fitbit Challenges are so much fun (BIG shout out to all my FitBit pals that keep me "up and stepping").
I try to keep active and earn FitPoints, whether it's by a light workout at the gym, a little cardio, or weights. Sometimes I just use a skipping rope at home or simply get some good stretches in on my mat after a walk. My FitBit helps me keep track of my activity, and lets me know when I need to get a few extra steps in. Whatever it is, it's not sitting in front of the TV, which just lead me on trips back and forth to the refrigerator. I'm no longer a couch potato and I have so much more energy.
On this journey, I have learned that it's important to be happy and while proper food, a good night's sleep, and being active contributes. I am also learning to make some "me time," and that really gives me a sense of fulfilment. I usually take an hour or two to just sit with my chai tea and reflect in a journal, read a book, or get some tips from our Weight Watchers Weekly.
It's also when I find time to "Connect." Imagine a group of people all trying to live a healthy lifestyle without passing any judgment. Connect is our Weight Watchers online social community where we inspire each other daily, and it's a place where we are supported, challenged and celebrated. Feel free to follow me on Connect. My handle is @fortyfitandfabulous. A huge shout-out to all my followers! You all inspire me everyday of this journey. I feel so lucky to be part of this community.
