Mushrooms are a versatile and nutritious ingredient that can be enjoyed in a multitude of dishes. Here are a few additional tips to store and cook mushrooms:

  • If you have excess mushrooms that you can't consume before they spoil, consider freezing them. First, slice the mushrooms and sauté them in a bit of oil or butter for a few minutes until they release some of their moisture. Then let them cool, transfer to a freezer-safe container, and freeze for up to 6 months.
  • Plastic bags make mushrooms sweat and deteriorate quickly. Store them in paper bags in the fridge so they last longer.
  • Mushrooms absorb water, so instead of washing them just wipe them clean with paper towel.
  • For an extra boost of umami flavour, try roasting your mushrooms in the oven. Preheat your oven to 200°C) toss the mushrooms with a bit of oil and seasonings of your choice, and spread them out on a baking sheet. Roast for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and tender.
  • Mushrooms are a great meat substitute in vegetarian and vegan dishes. Try using portobello mushrooms as a burger patty or shiitake mushrooms in a stir-fry.
  • In addition to the health benefits mentioned earlier, mushrooms are also low in calories and high in fibre. So not only do they taste great, but they can also help you feel full and satisfied.

Remember to always buy fresh mushrooms from a reputable source, and store them properly to ensure they stay fresh as long as possible. Enjoy experimenting with different types of mushrooms and incorporating them into your favourite recipes!
