Hungry Girl Goes… in Search of 2008's Fun (Secret) Food Finds

Hungry Girl

Sometimes to find the good stuff, you’ve got to look a little harder. I've done the tough work for you. Check out some of my favorite "under-wraps" finds from 2008.

FiberGourmet Light Macaroni and Cheese Dinner
Good news! Pasta smothered in cheese sauce is no longer off-limits. This stuff is incredibly delicious and creamy, PLUS you get 18 grams of fiber from just one serving. All you have to add is some milk (I use Unsweetened Almond Breeze) to get a fantastic, all-natural mac ‘n cheese dinner. Awesome! Find it online at fibergourmet.com.

One serving prepared has a POINTS® value of 3.

Chocolite Candies
Peanut Butter Cup Patties, Chocolate Coconut Bars

I’ve mentioned these products before but there are a couple of new flavors out that must be mentioned. Chocolite Peanut Butter Cup Patties are a perfect replacement for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Love coconut? The Chocolate Coconut candies are creamy, dreamy and amazing. Get ‘em from healthsmartfoods.com.

Each piece has a POINTS value of 0 to 1.

Sweetriot
Sweet shocker! The stats for the entire tin of these chocolate covered cacao nibs are very impressive. They’re not for your average milk-chocolate-loving crowd, but they come in three flavors: 50 (made with 50% dark chocolate), 65 (made with 65% dark chocolate) and 70 (made with 70% dark chocolate and espresso). Each teeny piece, or as they say, “peace”, has only 1 to 2 calories. For sale at sweetriot.com.

Each tin has a POINTS value of 3.

Buffalo Nickel Wingers
I just found out about these when a ton of them unexpectedly showed up at the Hungry Girl headquarters, and they're so good! There are five fantastic flavors (in order of least spicy to hottest): No Bull Barbeque, Honey Mustard Horsepower, Nacho Chilichanga, Caribbean Zin, and Fiery Buffalo Bleu. They’re also shaped like cute little chicken wings. Woohoo! Check out buffalonickelwingers.com to order.

Each serving of 25 Wingers has a POINTS value of 3.

PB2/FitNutz
These are two different powdered peanut butter brands, and they’re both worth trying. PB2 makes a Just Peanut Butter version as well as Chocolate PB2 (yum), and FitNutz offers Regular, Chunky and Pro (enhanced with more essential fatty acids). The big sell is that they have less fat than regular peanut butter. Just add water to get it into spread form or sprinkle some into your next smoothie. Mmmmmm! Order PB2 from bellplantation.com and FitNutz through fitnutzbutter.com.

A 2 Tbsp serving of PB2 has a POINTS value of 1.

A 2 Tbsp serving of FitNutz has a POINTS value of 1.

Something Special Deli-Foods Gourmet Original Antipasto
These people don’t lie. This is definitely “something special.” This little jar of antipasto goodness is bursting with flavor, tons of veggies and even tuna. Dip carrots in it, spread it on crackers, mix it into your morning Egg Beaters, or eat it plain. Go to somethingspecialdeli.com for ordering and availability info.

A 2 Tbsp serving has a POINTS value of 0.
