Tools for Living - Storyboarding
Storyboarding helps you identify the steps you need to take to
make your Winning Outcome a reality. Break down your long-term goals, i.e., your Winning Outcome,
into a list of shorter-term goals or steps. Then draw or write out each one, Goal One through
your Winning Outcome.
Check out how Sophie applied Storyboarding to her life:
Sophie's Storyboard
First, let's look at Sophie's Winning Outcome:
"I will follow the Weight Watchers plan this week and every week, including walking five days a week,
so I can get down to 132 pounds, a healthy weight for me."
Sophie breaks down the path she wants to take toward reaching her Winning Outcome into steps:
- I will start a walking club with my friends so I can get in my five walks per week.
- I will learn the specifics of my plan and fill my kitchen with appropriate foods.
- I will track my POINTS® values and stay on top of my progress.
- I will get down to my weight goal of 132 pounds.
Make A Storyboard
Here are five steps to creating your own Storyboard.
1. Decide on the mini-goals that will help you achieve your Winning Outcome.
2. Decide which goal will be first on your Storyboard, which will be second, and so on. That
way, you'll be able to see your progress towards achieving your Winning Outcome.
3. Remember, shorter-term goals should have the same characteristics as your Winning Outcome; namely,
- Positive
- Within your control
- Specific
- A good fit with your life
4. Draw or write out the steps, from Goal One through your Winning Outcome, on cardboard, paper or similar material.
5. Post your Storyboard somewhere you'll see it every day, as
a reminder of far you've come.
