Weight Watchers Ranked #1 Best Weight-Loss Diet by U.S. News & World Report for Third Year in a Row
2013 Best Diets review also once again gives us top ranking in Easiest Diet to Follow and Best Commercial Diet Plan categories.
We’re excited to report that U.S. News & World Report has once again confirmed our top spot in its rankings for Best Weight-Loss Diet, Best Commercial Diet Plan and Easiest Diet to Follow categories in its Best Diets 2013 report. An independent panel of 20 diet and nutrition experts found that the flexibility of Weight Watchers, and the fact that no foods were off limits, were big perks of the program.
“This recognition by independent diet and nutrition experts in the U.S. News & World Report rankings is further proof that Weight Watchers works,” said David Kirchhoff, CEO of Weight Watchers International. “An overwhelming amount of scientific evidence suggests that the most effective path to weight loss is one that goes beyond merely counting calories to include behavior change that includes things like group support, self-monitoring, use of digital tools and implementation of lifestyle changes.”
The Weight Watchers approach is backed by intensive scientific research and by millions of people who have successfully lost weight with the Plan over the past 50 years. “And now with our new Weight Watchers 360° program,” Kirchhoff continued, “we’ve built on our history of success with a program perfectly designed for the world we live in today.”
U.S. News & World Report determined its rankings by bringing together an independent panel of 20 nationally recognized experts in diet, nutrition, obesity, food psychology, diabetes, and heart disease. The experts conducted an in-depth assessment of 29 diets and diet programs, ranking them in seven categories: Short-term weight loss, long-term weight loss, ease of compliance, nutritional completeness, health risks, and ability to prevent or manage diabetes and heart disease. The experts rated each diet from 1 to 5 in each of the categories. You can learn more about the methodology here.
“It’s very gratifying to win U.S. News & World Report’s Best Weight Loss Diet ranking for the third year in a row,” said Karen Miller-Kovach, Chief Scientific Officer of Weight Watchers International. “In a world of free apps and calorie counting tools, it’s important to understand that all calories are not created equal. Our approach has the flexibility to include all the foods you love, while gently nudging you toward healthier choices that can keep you satisfied longer, which is key to weight-loss success. And with our new Weight Watchers 360° program, our goal is to make those choices so routine that they can become second nature.”
The new program gives people what they need to make their environments work for them, she continued. “We’re incorporating new ideas and strategies that are not focused on having higher levels of self-control, but rather, simple tactics you can employ to make it a lot easier to make a healthy choice.”
The recently launched, revolutionary Weight Watchers 360° program goes beyond food to help people lose weight in a world where temptation rules. The latest findings in behavioral science have shown that our brains are hardwired to make the unhealthy choice, even when we’re trying to be “good.” Weight Watchers 360° uses these findings to teach people how to break the circuit.
As well as advancements to its program, Weight Watchers is constantly working on other ways to make following the Plan easier and more convenient, such as the exciting advancements in mobile apps for the iPhone, Android and iPad, as well as the Barcode Scanner app, the Snap & Track feature (tracking via photos) and a new mobile web experience. The Weight Watchers app and the mobile web, available to meetings members with eTools and Weight Watchers Online subscribers, gives access to 155,000 food items, and 3,800 recipes and meal ideas with the PointsPlus® values already calculated.
Weight Watchers also recently added the new ActiveLink® Activity Monitor to its growing arsenal, helping Weight Watchers Online subscribers and members with an eTools subscription more accurately track their movements throughout the day and set activity goals going forward. (Subscribers must purchase the monitor and monthly ActiveLink subscription separately.)
